When Perfect Comes . by Susan Ward + giveaway.

Lady Meredith Ann Merrick does not want to be tamed by a man.

Varian Morgan is a man no woman can resist.

Thrown together on a ship, will Varian’s charms conquer Meredith’s love of freedom?

Meredith is born at time when women have but two choices: marry or face social ruin. Determined to master her own fate when her father concocts a devious plan to force her into marriage; she takes matters into her own hands. She embarks on a foolhardy adventure to free herself from an impending marriage contract, only to find herself trapped by the mysterious and beguiling Varian Morgan.

Varian Morgan is a man of myth and legend. Known as much for his exploits with women, as for his for his piracy on the high seas; a vexing young girl, taken hostage in Cornwall, is no challenge for his prowess. When it becomes clear that she is hiding something from him, it only makes him more determined to ignore his desires and withhold from her the pleasures of his bed.

Trapped on a ship of men, the last thing Meredith anticipated was days at the mercy of a vile pirate crew and nights yearning for its captain.

When fierce arguments give way to fiery passion, is desire enough to make a girl determined to remain free of men, be willing captive in the bed of a sinister pirate, who is a master of seduction?

I’m addicted to writing. I’ve written 26 romance novels in 25 years, but I just started releasing them in May 2014 because frankly there are some things inside them I wasn’t sure I wanted my daughters to read. The nest is empty, my girls all grown, so now I’m letting loose.
I believe in the adage; Don’t judge a book by it’s cover! Definitely the case with The Girl on the Half Shell. Perfect looking lives are not perfect. We all have our own challenges to overcome! It’s a theme in the books I’ve written and I cover a wide range of contemporary issues in stories ranging from raw and steamy, to gut wrenching, to happy happily ever after.
My first release The Girl on the Half Shell is my most intense novel, the first in the Half Shell Series and the one I had to wait until I had no kids at home to release.
My Perfect Forever Series is definitely happy happily ever after! The first in this line of books was released June 2014 with The Signature.
My soon to be released first novella of the Encounters books, are short, steamy, and fun reads.
And in September I’m starting to release my first in The Deverell Series with When the Perfect Comes, a fast paced, plot twisting historical!
I’ve been in love with the Romance novel since I read my first Kathleen Woodiwiss book, and it seems to me that beyond a steamy fun read, a good romance novel is so much more: it’s women empowering women. We share. We learn.
So about me? I’m as eclectic as my books. A mom. A business owner. A writer of romance. An advocate for clean air and the environment. A wife and an animal lover. The best way to explain me is that once in a talent contest I played classical piano followed by a chopsticks duet with my toes. That pretty much sums up how I’ve lived my life!

I was lucky enough to get an A.R.C. of this ,but that will not colour my review. I was really enjoying it until our mean author cut us off before the H.E.A. That is all that stopped it getting 5stars.

Lady Meredith, known as Merry is avoiding all attempts to find her a husband. Then she overhears how her father is going to settle the problem for once and for all. She decides to force her determined suitor to cry off. To find him she visits the worst dive in the harbour disguise as a boy. Merry accidently hears pirates talking and is accused of being a spy. To stop her telling what she has heard she is taken aboard ship.
Captain Morgan has a terrible reputation in England and seems able to come and go from English ports even though he has a price on his head. When his bully boys deliver Merry to their Captain’s bed, it seems her fate is sealed.
Both Merry and Captain Morgan are hiding their true identity.

Mercy’s time aboard ship is not  at all what you would expect. Very enjoyable characters that I want to know better. I can see the series developing,  but was disappointed with the lack of ending .

Love Historicals Presents.

Lost in a Kiss.

An Impassioned Redemption.

By Sydney Jane Baily.

Jameson Carter owns a gambling riverboat on the Mississippi, he has the ladies who work for him just to keep the men entertained while they are gambling, not in their rooms.

Josephine Holland owns a saloon where the women earned a living with a little extra attention to the customers.

Jameson will not take advantage of his employees ,so prefers to visit with the ladies who work for Josephine. Although the one he really wants is not available to customers.

Someone is set to cause trouble. The saloon is burned, potshots are taken when Jameson and Josephine are walking in the street, and then one of Jamesons girls is shot.

They need to find out who is out to kill them.

A light hearted fun read, with good characters and a good dose of who dunnit.

I will be on the look out for more by this author.

Love Like A River.

By Jill Hughey.

Gratia is lonely because her new husband has been away on service to the Emperor for six months, so she goes to visit her sister. Gratia at one time fancied herself in love with the man who later married her sister. While she is visiting, her brother in law comes home from his term of service, bringing with him people who have been at the same place as her husband. One of the women is being overly friendly , she tells Gratia many things that upset her.

Leo has had to come chasing across the country to find his wife. After six months away he expected to find her waiting at home. When he finds his wife she is furious with him, because of what she has heard.

This is a very short story about Trust and learning about each other. Hard to get excited about such a short story.

Maknab´s Revenge.

By Anna Markland.

This is a stand alone novella that links to the FitzRam family series. A marvellous medieval romance.

Ingram Maknab is returning home to the Lowlands of Scotland and the home he was ejected from many years before. Kolbrand´s Path is his birthright and he will claim it by any means possible.

Ruby Buchan is horrified when her father tells her she has to marry a man she detests just so her brother can be declared heir to Kolbrand´s Path. The man she is to marry is said to have the ear of King David.

Ingram is amazed at how easily Ruby falls into his hands ,by trying to run from her betrothed. Things go far too easily . Ruby´s betrothed turns up to prove a big problem .

I love the series that this is connected to, and this ties up a lose end. As usual with Anna´s books the history shines through to give us a true taste of the life her characters lived. With twists and turns combined with humour and a beautiful love story.

I read every one of Anna Markland´s books I can get my hands on.

Winter Wind

By Nancy Morse.

This is a Native American Historical romance. It reads like a continuation of a series.

Black Moon is a war chief of the Lakota people. He has been out scouting the area , and watching the ever increasing number of bluecoat soldiers and white settlers come into the lands of his people. When he returns to his village it is to hear from a trader that another tribe has suffered at the hands of the Bluecoats with many women and children being murdered.

Katie is Black moon´s white wife , the daughter of a trader killed when the soliders wiped out a village he was trading in. They have been together for a few years , and have suffered the loss of their first child at birth.

With this news of the bluecoats latest killings Black moon must lead his people to war. What effect will this have on his wife ?

I found this story spends too many words describing things in a way that might make sense to the Native Americans reading it , but for me being English not so much. Possibly if I had read the books that I assume came before I would have enjoyed it more.

Cherished Protector of Her Heart.

By Laurel O´Donnell.

This story is a follow up to Angel´s Assassin, which I have already read. Because of that I don´t want to tell you too much about this incase it spoils the preceding book for you.

I will say that if you have a man who was sold into slavery by his father as a child ,then trained as an assassin, You must expect his past to come and bite him.

Our hero has won the love of a wellborn Lady, and the wedding is about to take place. The nobles that come to attend do not all have good intentions.

Definitly an entertaining read , This author never fails to please.

The Morgans Of Rocky Ridge, Will.

By Margery Scott.

This is a historical western romance, part of the Morgans of Rocky Ridge series.

Will has come to town to help repair his brother´s saloon after a big brawl almost destroyed it. Because it is near the independence day celebrations the hotel is full. He finds lodging with a young widow for the price of repairs to her boarding house. Will has every intention of leaving town after the repairs are finished ,and going to try his luck on the new gold fields.

Virginia is struggling to cope with the repairs to her house and the grief of her young son. He has hardly spoken to her since his father died. Virginia knows her son blames her for his father´s death , and in her mind she does as well.

This is a sweet romance set in the west in 1865. When the women felt the need to be perfect ,and the men the need to protect. I found this an enjoyable read, even though it is not really my normal reading style. It is just a little too sweet and innocent for my taste.

Knight´s Kiss.

By Lana Williams.

This is a medieval romance, set in England 1249.

Sir Hugh is visiting the market city of Ermine on behalf of his friend . The lord of this city is rumoured to be having meetings with other Lords with treasonous intentions. It is Hugh´s job to find out if it is true, and if possible find out who else is involved.

Lisa is a widow who brews and sells the best ale in the area. Her sister is working up at the keep for the Lord. Lisa is ordered by the Lord´s steward to find out what the visiting Knights are after, if she doesn´t do as she is told her sister will suffer.

This is from an author I have never read before. It is quite short but is enough to tell me That I will be looking for more from her. There is intrigue ,action and a good dose of romance. I really enjoyed it.

By Cynthia Woolf.

This book is set in Colorado 1893 and is obviously an after the H.E.A.

Duncan and Catherine have been married for several years and have two young children. Duncan has just received a letter that could give him an inheritance. They do not need it , but to find he has family that he knew nothing about spurs his curiosity. Duncan plans for a honeymoon that they never had. That way he can meet up with some old friends and find out if he wants to claim his birthright.

Catherine is enjoying the life they have now on a horse breeding ranch. She has a little secret of her own that she will not tell Duncan just yet.

This book is a teaser to me , because I have never read any from this author before. Now I have to go and find the books that this one follows. The story that this hints at sounds really fun. Both Duncan and Cat are intriguing characters. Duncan has a history with the famous Bill Cody and his Wild West Show, and Catherine obviously has a reason to be a crack shot. I am definitely going to look for the other books.

I was lucky enough to recieve an A.R.C. of this but that does notcolour my review in any way.

This book is a mix of my two favourite genres, historical and paranormal.  With sexy Highlanders to top it off.
Lady Sibyl Blackthorn is being forced to marry the evil and cowardly Laird Alistair MacFalon.  The weeks she has spent at his home waiting until everything is ready for the wedding have been miserable. The day he sets up a hunt. Sibyl decides to escape.
The creatures that Alistair is hunting are called Wulvers (werewolves).
Raife is the wulver’s pack leader and has come to rescue one of the packs females from the hunters. He finds himself with two females to save.
Once Sibyl has recovered from the unbelievable scenes she witnessed she finds her skills as a healer are desperately needed. .

I don’t want to give away any of the story, so you will have to read it for yourself. I will say I loved it. The story is incredible but believable. The characters are strong. Lots of action, some hot sex all set in the Scottish highlands of old. Everything you could possibly want in a good book.

This is the second book in the series.  It can easily be read as a stand alone. Although you would know the final result of the first book this one wouldn’t spoil it for you.
Aileen is a modern woman with an affinity to the earth magic. After her mother’s death her father buried himself in his work in Scotland.  Aileen is pleased when he sends for her to help him, but is still cross with him for abandoning her. When she gets to Scotland she finds that her parents have been hiding a lot of family secrets. When she runs off in a temper she stumbles through a veil in time, and meets a warrior that is groaning in pain.
Steven is a dragon Knight who has been punished by the Fae after the death of his sister. He has lost all belief in his position as a dragon Knight and hates the Fae for what they have done to him and his family.
The druids are being persecuted by the new church.  So must hide from them and a powerful enemy who is looking for vengeance. Steven has taken on the task of protecting them.

This book has everything I look for in a good story. Sexy Highlander knights, time travel and magic. The characters are strong and great fun. The boy Ian is lovely.  The storyline keeps the pages flying by.
I will be reading the rest of the series when it is written, and am going to get the first one to read soon.

Highland Fun

Temptation in a Kilt.

Temptation in a Kilt.

By Victoria Roberts.

This is a lovely Highlander romance.

Rosalia is being paraded around King James´court because her parents need to find her a husband. They are very short of money , so they feel there is no choice but to take whoever offers for her. Rosalia is humiliated when she realizes that someone overheard her mother bullying her.

Boarder Wars

The Wolfe.

The Wolfe.

By Kathryn Le Veque.

We start this book on the Scottish boarders in the year 1231. There are almost constant skirmishes between the English and the Scots.

William De Wolfe is the man the Scottish have come to dread, but after the latest battle he is lying gravely injured. An angel in the form of a Scottish lass treats his injury instead of finishing him off.

Months later the English King , Henry in an effort to make peace orders one of his Border Earls to take the daughter of the clan chief Laird Scott as his bride.

Jordan is terrified to go to England and live among the people who have always been the enemy, but knows it is for the good of all the boarder clans. The Earl of Teviot is an old widower and has no real desire to marry again, but must obey his King. He sends the Captian of his household The Wolfe to clan Scott to fetch his bride. Once William sees who is to be the new bride to his Lord, a man who is almost a father to him he is torn. He desires Jordan more than any woman but he is a very loyal knight . He can´t bear to betray his Lord.

Although Jordan worries what her life is to be like, she begins to trust The Wolfe will never hurt her.

This is a truly epic book . Some might say it is too long but every page is needed to get the whole of the story. The story is full of emotion and so rich in the history you feel as if you are there. There is much more than one love story here. The secondary characters are very involved in lives of the hero and heroine. So many strong but gentle men and intelligent and strong women.

I have read many of Kathryn´s books and never been disappointed , and I will read many more.

Blood of The Red Rose

A 5 star read.

This book is set during the War of the Roses, The characters are mostly real , but the author has added the heroine as an illegitimate daughter to The Earl of Warwick Richard Neville. Sometimes called the King Maker.
Our hero is Edmund Beaufort known to his friends and family as Beau, a very loyal subject to the Lancastrian throne . He is in exile with Queen Marguerite and Prince Edward. He is a man with no doubts over where his loyalty lies. He is also very much in favour with the ladies. He has lost his father and older brother to the cause, but his younger brother is in exile with him. His job is to train the young Prince while his father is imprisioned.
Our heroine is Kathrine Neville, A daughter that Warwick brought into his wife´s household to be raised with her half sisters. She is very much the daughter of his heart. He doesn´t have to worry about finding her a husband that will help him in his political maneuvering. The Earl of Warwick has changed his alliance to the Lancastrian side of the war .He already has one daughter married to George The Duke of Clarence. Who is on the York side of the war. When he manages to get his younger daughter married to the young Prince Edward.
The trials of the war on the loyalties of all concerned is shown in this story . The problems the main characters have trying to find time for themselves without damaging Kathrine´s reputation or upsetting a very volatile Queen. It´s an emotional journey . I cried all through the last few pages.
This book is a must for true medieval romance fans.
